Abstract ٍSince the introduction of antipyrine into clinical use in 1884 as antipyretic and analgesic a tremendous number of 5 pyrazolones, 3,5 pyrazolidinediones and 1h-pyrazole derivatives have been synthesized and investigated for the same type of action and for other diverse biological activities. The activity of the monobactam Aztreonam , AZ, has been investigated in this study in an attempt to maximize it Fifty-three multiply resistant clinical isolates were for against AZ by determination of the minimum concentration and the minimum lethal The range of the MIC of the Enterobacteriaceae isolates tested was 0.025-0.39 mg/ml. < However, the Salmonella isolate tested had an MIC value of 25 mg/ml. Among the stains tested in the present study, 38 Ps. aeruginosa isolates. <Their MIC average were 21.09, 25.98 and 26.89 mg/ml as determined by agar dilution and broth dilutions (microtitrator and tube) methods. <The MIC50 and MIC90 for agar dilutions were 12.5 and 25 mg/ml, while for broth dilutions they were 25 and 50 mg/ml. The MBC/MIC ratio of the Ps. aeruginosa isolates varied between 1 and 5, while for the other organisms the ratio was in general 1-8. |
