Abstract
Two mam types for the design of four-bar mechanisms to approximate an arbitrary input-output relation over a finite range of operation; namely order and point approximation are explained. The error behaviour throughout the range is inves¬tigated with a deduced equation for each type.
Several formulae of varying degrees of accuracy and com¬plexity of calculations up to sixth order and six-point app¬roximations are derived. enabling a designer to selec•b the one best suited to his requirements. The flow charts of calculations of these methods are presented to facilitate their programming for computer use.
