Abstract In this thesis the General Elastic Theory of Cylindrical shell as developed by Gibson is dis¬cussed. Two computer programmes are prepared by the auther based on Gibson’s theory. One for sin~le simple shell with edge beams HGSP, and the other for simple multi - shell problem HMSP. Both programmes were used to compare theoretical and experimental results for six models; one asbestos model tested by Gibson/Barnes and five models were tested by Korish, two of which were fabricated from aluminium, the other three were made from micro - concrete. All models were continuous in longitudinal direction over two equal spans. Theoretical values of~stress functions and deflections ~e calculated for reduced lenghths I = 1, O.91j 0.81 and 0.71 as a simple shell. These functions are plotted together with simple stress factors suggested by Olsen against experimental results. Comparison between theoretical analysis and experimental results have been discussed. |
