Abstract

Hirsutism presents a mainly cosmetic and psychosocial problem, and some married infertile patient considered it as a second complain. This study was an attempt to investigate this problem, among the Egyptian patients to reach the probable cause and management of this disorder.
This study was conducted in the out patient clinic of Zagazig University hospital & General Zagazig hospital on 40 females, 30 of them (study group) were suffering of hirsutism, and 10 were investigated as a control group. The study group was subdivided into subgroup 1 ( 20 married pt.) and subgroup 2 ( 10 virgin pt.) for each of these cases the following were done :-
- Complete history taking.
- Thorough physical examination stressing on signs of hyperandrogenism
- Local pelvic examination.
- Ultrasound scanning on the abdomen for searching supra-renal gland disease and on the pelvis searching for any ovarian pathology such as PCOs ’or androgen secreting ovarian tumors.
- Blood samples were taken for hormonal assay. The following hormones levels were estimated: Free testosterone, DHEAS,LH,FSH, and PRL. The degree of Hirsutism was clinically estimated by Ferriman and Gallway method (1961) , The mean dgree in subgroup (1) was 13.05 ± 2.6, while in subgroup(2) was .
