Abstract

A gas turbine contains many rl:ctnll[’;ulur ducts for con- veYlng all’ and gases. It i~; t11c’l’c’fore requirnd to irlvc
the behaviour and charactE?ri”ilics of the flow in rectanGular jets, which has ciir”ct; l’C’JUvilnce to the prob _

In the present work”an invl’ iOl! of’ the: T](,ilr rfTJon

tally and theoretically.
A prediction procedure for two-cijrnc’tlsiol1,,nl boundary-l8.yer is presented the Co.lculation, for Given inJ’oITI;Hion about the (;Xperlrnen-

difference solutions available: fOe’ round jets. Because of the non-similarity or the velocity profiles, the classical solutions are unsatisfactory. On the other hand,finite-difference solution,; with suitnblc nllXlrlr~ len¬gth models give good prediction~) of velocity dC’C:l,Y nlOlle; the axis of the jet,as well as,vc~locit,Y profilE:S and spread¬lng characterisitics of jets as:3uminrr, uniform startinr; pro¬files.
The greatest need of a designer is to know, beforehand, how his projected equipment will performHis most val-
uable instrument lS to’ carry ou t a prpdict ion JH’oc(;duI’t;. The provisiQll of such,an instrulrllmt is the main Gct i vi¬ty of an applied scientist. The method presented here is usc[u] to desir;ners of engineering equipments su;h as film-cooled combustion chamber walls, jet mixing devic(~ s of the chcmic al indusL ry, heat exchanger surfaces, and aircraft wings. It enables fast and accurate prediction of rectnnrr, ular ,jet center¬plane characterisitics startinr; from knowIl velocity profiles at the nozzle exit.
