Abstract

CONGESTION IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR TO DAY’S WIDE-AREA NETWORKS, INTERNET. CONGESTION IS GENERALLY BAD FOR NET USERS, APPLICATIONS AND NETWORKS. WHEN A PACKET ENCOUNTERS CONGESTION, THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THAT THE PACKET IS DROPPED, AND THE DROPPED PACKET WASTED PRECIOUS NETWORK BANDWIDTH ALONG THE PATH from ITS SENDER TO ITS DESTINATION. CONGESTION CONTROL IS THUS REQUIRED TO PREVENT CONGESTION COLLAQSE IN THE NETWORK. WITHOUT CONGESTION CONTROL, A SENDING NODE COULD BE BUSY TRANSMITTING PACKETS THAT MAY BE DROPPED LATER. CONGESTION CONTROL IS CURRENTLY A LARGE ARGE AREA OF RESEARCH AND CONCERN IN THE NETWORK COMMUNITY. MANY CONGESTION CONTROL MECHANISMS ARE DEVELOPED AND REFINED BY RESEARCHERS AIMING TO OVERCOME CONGESTION.
