Abstract
he maxicomputers are replaced by a set of mini~omputers which are interconnected•to form a network # this approach provides more reliable system ,higher speed, and lower cost pet~ job .
In this research we will design an optimal configuration for the computer network at faculity of engineering in Alexandria university FEAU ,we introduced in crlaptEn~1I1” the advantages of the distt~ibuted systems (DS) over the main fram computer and discussed the modern commun i cat ion set~vet~s. In chaptet~ ”2” we def ined the general aspects of large scale networks and discussed the most famous protocoles of the computer networks. Then we discussed in chaptet~”3” the aspects of the local at~ea networks and their famous protocdles in some restriction . In chaptet~ ”4” we delivet~ed some of the most effective performance indecies of a general computer network and then designed an optimal configuration for the LAN of the FEAU .Fi1l1311y we j.ntt~oduced in chaptet~ ”5” the conclusion of the research and some pretectable researches in the LAN fields.
