المستخلص Developing countries have been experiencing, for the past four decades, rapid rates of urbanization, which is not expected to decline in the future. This trend could be attributed to economic growth, natural population increase, rural-urban migration and technological development. Such rapid urbanisation means additional and intensive pressure on existing services and infrastructure. It also creates an ever¬incrasing demand for more land to be allocated to various uses such as housing, commercial and industrial facilities, and even open spaces and recreational areas. It is hard, however, to cope with such increasing demand, which means that, urban environment and quality of urban life would be declining. |
