Abstract This thesis presents a new device, the switched-capacitor filter, that tilizes only capacitors, switches, andperational amplifiers to perform precision audio frequency filtering, summation, integration, and delay f~rictions. It may be fabricated in a complete monolithic integrated circuit form using the standard MOS technology lending itself to large scale integration.Different approaches are used to analyze and design switched-capacitor filters, such as the switched-capacitor/ resistor equivalence, the bilinear z-transform, the A-function~ formulation, the state-space description and the Z-domain”~quivalent building blocks. Computer-aided analysis has also been carried out, na~ely, the switching matrix method, and the method of network partitioning. Truth tables and new notations have been adopted to clarify and simplify the analysis and the design. Two types of filters have been analyzed in detail and taken as vehicle to evaluate the different types of limitations in switched-capacitor filters, mainly, the effect of clock frequency; the capacitance ratio, the operational amplifier finite gain and bandwidth and the overlapping of the clocks. Parasitic capacitances, noise, and the undesired effects associated with the sampling operation have also been consid¬ered and modeled. Experimental investigations have been carried out to ch~ck the validity of the methods of analysis. Compariso between theoretical and experimental results indicates a good agrpement between them.computer programs are listed and commen- ted in the Appendices. |
