Abstract radius and refractive index. The fiber under investigation is characterized by a biqudratic refractive index, especially having a W-shape spatial profiZe,with two tailoring parameters. The values of these two parameters in addition to the fiber radius are adjusted through the calculations to achieve a better design of the fiber for high quality performance. The analysis and computations are carried out in two main subjects : 1) the transmission of optical soZitons in the optical fibers, including the calculations of the group veZoity and the peak power of the pulses, and 2) the thermal effects in the optical fibers, including the determination of the axial caustic zones and the maximum axial temperature. The soZiton transmission in the optical fibers is investi¬gated by three ways: i) the optical electric field is treated in a linear fashon, ii) the laser source is considered to suffer a linear chirp during the pulse duration and the optical electric field is treated again in the linear fashon, and iii) the radial dependence of the optical electric field is exactly treated avoiding the linear fashon approximation. We have obtained the optimum values of the tailoring parameters and thefiber radius that |
