Abstract The sensitivity of Niesseria gonorrohoeae towards combinations of sulphonnide and various chemotherapeutic agents was investigated. The organin used was an International Reference Strain, as well as strains isolated clinically. The sulphonaxnide used was suiphafurazole, while the tested antibiotics included penicillin G sodium, ampicillin, methicillin, streptomycin, oxytetra.. cyclin, mepicyclin, chloramphenical, erythromycin, bacitracin, polymyxin, neomycin, gentarnicin, cephalosporins (cephalathin and cephaloridin), lincomycin, novobiocin, vancomycin virgimicin and fucidic acid. Other chemo therapeutic agents include nalidixic acid and nitro— furantoin. The combined bacteriostatic activity was evaluated by estimating the minimum inhibitory concentration of the combination by the tube c.lution method, and the results were compared with the 1iICs of the active compo— nnts of the combinatian. |
