Abstract

The present work is concerned with the detection of circulating . Fasciola antigen (CFAg) in the serum, as a method for diagnosis and assessment of cure in human fascioliasis. The efficacy of triclabendazole and mirazid was studied to determine the most effective drug with less side effects in treatment of human fascioliasis. Also, evaluation of ELISA and western blot techniques was done to determine the most accurate method for detection of the least amount of CFAgs in the patient’s sera as regards diagnosis and assessment of treatment.
One-hundred individuals were included in this study, 60 cases represented with Fasciola infection, 20 cases infected with other parasites(infected control group) and 20 persons were parasite-free (apparently healthy control group).
All patients and control groups were subjected to full history taking, thorough clinical examination, repeated stool examination, complete blood picture, ELISA and western blot technique for detection of circulating Fasciola anti gens.
Fasciola infected patients were classified into two groups, one half of them were treated with triclabendazole in a single oral dose of 10 mg/kg/B.W. and the other half were treated with mirazid in a dose of 10 mg/B.W. for six consecutive days then followed up for one, three, six months and re-evaluated by repeating the same previous examinations and investigations.
