Abstract
A total of 298 cows and buffaloes were examined in the present study. They were found in Zagazig Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the Egyptian Agricultural Organization in Beni-Suif governorate and the National Research Center Animal Station in Giza Governorate. These animals were classified according to the clinical examination, biochemical examination, haematological examination, ultrasonography, post mortem examination and histopathological examination into five groups:(1) Group I (Control group):This group included 60 animals ”30 buffaloes and 30 cows” Clinical examination of this group revealed good healthy condition. Normal haematological & biochemical findings were recorded.Post mortem exam revealed no gross lesions. Normal histological picture was also recorded. The liver was recognized ultrasonographically by its parenchymal patteren which consisted of numerous weak echoes homogensouly distributed over the entire area of the liver.(2) Group II (Fatty liver group):This group consisted of 120 animals ”70 buffaloes and 50 cows”. Clinical examination of these animals revealed loss of body weight, decrease in milk production, depression, loss of appetite, relatively higher pulse and respiratory rates. Ruminal contractions were decreased and the mucous membrane was slight rosy red in color. .
