Abstract
Since the Renaissance, architects have gained greater and greater freedom of choice in recalibrating the existing paradigm or defining new ones. This new freedom has also placed new responsibility on the architect who, in turn, requires greater education and knowledge. This knowledge was considered necessary to successfully represent the boundaries used to measure, calibrate and test the rituals of life
Architecture can never embrace the challenges of the future without infusion of new ideas, technologies and especially diverse individuals and approaches. People are destining themselves to be suspended in the past. As architects, we need to consider new paradigms and not deny the possibility of change
This thesis is concerned with the new trends in architecture that emerged in the last decade of the 20th century, and started to be recognized as major trends for architecture of the 21st century. The new trends of the 21st century architecture is thoroughly discussed and summarized in this thesis, together with a background ofthe major architectural trends in the 20th century, outlining the key architects of the century and what trend each architect adopts. This thesis will also examine the major architectural form fundamentals and principles (formative ideas), outlining the key fundamentals in form analysis, relating fundamentals together.
Through an analytical study of buildings for pioneer architects of the 21 st century, the thesis proposes a diagrammatic analysis tool which could be applied for a much better understanding of the new trends and architectural designs ideas. It is concluded that there are similarities between the form ideas along time, and also major differences in some or the form ideas, theses changes were recorded together with the major effects of the new trends. General recommendations were outlined, with the knowledge of the new trends in architecture and how to analyze and understand such trends and buildings.
