Abstract In this manuscript interest has been given to some agricultural residues or farm by-products (wheat straw, horse bean straw, cotton stalks and sugar cane bagasse) as sources of hemicellulose. The hemicellulose has been isolated from each by-product and its chemical structure investigated. The graded acid hydrolysis and Smith’s deegradation procedures have been used.
