Abstract Oxygen radical disease of neonatology has not been proven but an increasing body of evidence seems to indicate that free radicals are involved in several processes leading to conditions such as chronic lung disease (BPD), retinopathy of prematurity(ROP), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and periventricular leukomalacia (PVL). This study was carried out at Neonatology Unit, Pediatric department of Zagazig University Children Hospital in the period from April 2005 to March 2007. Our study included 120 preterm infants ,48 fulfilled our criteria, the mean birth weight was 1497+0.266gm , weight ranged from 1000-2000gm, 25 male, 23 female), M/F was 1.1:1 .Mean Gestational age was less than 32 weeks gestation (28.15±1.15 weeks) ,range 28-32weeks. the work aim to asses the level of plasma 8-isoprostane in premature infants who are treated with oxygen therapy as a predictor for development of some radio-oxidative O2 free radicals related complications as {BPD, IVH, PVL, ROP, NEC}. |
