Abstract

SUMMARY
This work was designed to study the isolation and identification of Rhizobium and Lactobacillus species (Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria) as well as their physiological activities and biochemical properties of some salt tolerpnt species. The obtained results could be summarized as follows:
1-’ Rhizohium isolates
1- from leguminous plants such as Termis , Pea, Faba bean 1 Cowpea and Pea nut, it was possible to isolate and identify 34 isolates of Rhizobium species, which were tolerant to different concentrations of NaCI ( 1 - 10 %). All Rhizobium isolates were able to grow on agar media containing 2 % NaCI whereas, 80 % of tested isolates could grow in the presence of 5% and 7 % NaCl, respectively.
2- The morphological and biochemical activities of the isolates were examined in media amended with some sugars namelyyglucose , manitol and fructose. The rhizobia utilized some of the sugar tested.
3- The effect of different concentrations of the antibiotic, oxytetracycline, tetracycline and nalidixic acid on growth of Rhizobuim showed that 90% of isolates grew at 20 ug I ml .
4- About 60 % of isolates grew, in 20 ug / ml of tetracycline.
