Abstract

All the patient were subjected to helical CT & MRI scanning of the pancreas and biliary tract. In this study we aimed to evaluate the role of MR imaging and MRCP versus helical CT in detection of different causes of biliary in adult patients. Patient was divided into three group; the first group. (17 patients) included patients with sonographically suspected choledocholithiasis; the second group (29 patients) included patients with sonographically suspected malignant mass obstructing the biliary tract (26 were prhnary tumors and they other 3 were metastatic and LN. infiltration); and the third group ( 4 patients) included patients with post operative suspection of having bile duct injury as a result of surgery. According to the morphology encountered at the site of obstruction, MRI with MRCP was found highly specific in differentiating the next step following depication of biliary obstruction by US consequently in the near future, these will be no place fore diagnostic ERCP witch will be restricted to the therapeutic applications.
