Abstract The present work is mainly concerned with the study of the fauna and the Miocene rocks in which they were found to find out the paleoenvironmental conditions under which they were deposi ted. To achieve this conclusion 3 vertical sections in Western Sinai and 4 vertical sections in the Cairo-Suez and the Cairo-Sukhna roads were collected. from these sections 13 microfacies accociations were recognized, 6 foraminifera, 13 bivalvia, 12 gastropoda, 6 echinoidea species and one shark tooth were collected and studied. The author waG able to recognize ~ukhul, ~udeis and Kareem Formations in the Miocene sections of the Western Sinai, while only EL-Sadat Formation was found in the Cairo-Suez and the Cairo-Sukhna roads. The paleoenvironmental conditions under which the different Formations were deposited are as follow: 1. Nukhul Formation (Lower Miocene): present in Gebels EL-Gushia and EL-Xreir, it suggests deposition under agitated and unstable marine conditions. 2. Rudeis Formation (KiddIe Miocene): present in the three sections of Western Sinai, it suggests deposition under shallow agiated marine conditions. 3. Karreem Formation (KiddIe Miocene): present in Gebels EL-Gushia epicontinental and restricted deposition and EL-Xreir, it suggests or lagoonal environment. |
