Abstract
Egypt and the world are facing two important problems, the first is the very large amount of exhaust emissions that result in an environmentally problem, and the second is the decreasing of the crude oil reserves. The environmentally problem require a clean fuel to reduce the emissions rates and the decreasing of the crude oil reserves requires an alternative fuel types. Natural gas considers one of the best solutions for the two problems, natural gas is a clean fuel and available in a huge reserves around the world generally and especially in Egypt.
Natural gas is used in industrial and locomotive applications and still limited for use in marine applications. Natural gas is used only on board marine vessels intended to carry gases in bulk at the dual fuel mode only.
This thesis is trying to use the natural gas in the dedicated mode as a marine fuel instead of diesel fuel through converting of the diesel engine into dedicated natural gas engine and use the converted natural gas power plant on board inland waterway marine unit The case study resulting in converting of a diesel engine into a gas engine at a reasonable power reduction rate and replaces the diesel engines by the converted gas engines on board inland waterway marine unit.
