Abstract The performance of power systems during steady state and fault conditions may affected by the presence of harmonics in the supply voltage. The aim of this thesis is to study the effect of the presence of harmonics in power system supply voltage with distorted voltage inputs on the maximum over voltages due to the partial or complete failure of power factor correction capacitor banks and evaluate these maximum over voltages for certain distribution power systems The faulted capacitor bank size which cause system resonance with fundamental frequency have been found and corresponding maximum over voltages have been evaluated Partial and complete failure voltages arise on shunt power factor correction capacitor banks in grounded and under grounded distribution systems with distorted voltage input have been investigated the maximum values of this over voltages have been determined with these distorted voltage inputs and compared with those obtained with pure sinusoidal voltages |
