Abstract The major objectives of this research were to study the effects of plant densities and plant growth regulators (mefluidide and GA3) on plant growth ,dry matter yield , and quality ( cell wall components 0 of fiour diverse sorghum cultivars . Three field experiments and two greenhouse experiments were conducted in 1991 and 1992 to investigate these objectives Over all cultivars and locations there were increases in basal tiller number , stem diameter , and leaf number , stem diameter , and leaf number per plant as plant density decreased from 400 , 00 to 70,000 plants ha -1 . plant height and leaf / stem ratios were not affected by plant density . Differences among cultivars remained relatively constant as plant density increased for all morphological traits , axcept cultivar 2 (ATX631*Green leaf ) produced the greatest basal tiller number as plant density decreased and cultivar 1 ( ATX631*90c8987) had the tallest plants as plant density increased . In general . the most effective treatunents , were B complex at the medium coneentration and 2,4 , 5- T at the high coneentration . in the second season . the prementioned treatments ,in addition to Dllt APPLIED AT THE HIGH OR MEDIUM CUNEENTRATIONS . Were the most effectivetreatments The interaction between the two man factors was significant in the first seasons only Soaking treatments in solution of the medium or high concentrations of euther DLLL or 2,4,5-T and /or spraying treatments with eiher the high coneentration of 4, 5-1 and /or three oncentrations of V Bcomplex resulted in the maximum values . The increase of reducing sugars amnd total sugars contents in the leaves and corms of gladiolus due to the treatment Wih auxin was recorded also by Ahmad (1987) on Dahlia Attia and Aly (1993) on iris , Chuikova (64) on sugar beets EL-Kady et.
