Abstract

Female circumcision is a public health problem. In Egypt 27% of ever married Egyptian women had been circumcised. In order to deal with FC effectively, there is need to discern the factors that lead to perpetuation of its practice. The practice better described as female circumcision is of long standing in some communities, and has spread to non traditional countries by immigration. It is of varying degrees of invasiveness, often including clitoridectomy, but all raise health-related concerns, which can be of considerable physical and / or psychological severity, and compromise gynecological and obstetric care. The practice is not based on a requirement of religious observance, although parents usually seek it for their daughters in good faith. It is directed to the social control of women’s sexuality, in association with preservation of virginity and family honor. FC is becoming increasingly prohibited by law, in countries both of its traditional practice and of immigration. The aim of the present study was to identify the prevalence of female circumcision, reason and knowledge of mothers about the impact.of FC on the girl health.Across-sectional descriptive study design will be used in conducting the study. The sample consisted of (150) mothers that agree to participate in the study taking from out patient clinic in Zagazig university hospitals. Data were collected using an interview questionnaire sheet.
