Abstract The present study deals with the sedimentology and mineralogy of the soils located in the northern part of the Nile valley. This area includes the governorates of EL-minia, Beni-swef, and Giza. The cultivated lands in this area lies close to the Nile stream on both sides and mostly alluvial. The aim of this work is to study the existing mineralogical and sedimentological properties in order to establish a datum state of the soils of the northern part of the Nile valley to be refered to in the future studies. Samples representing the different soils of the studied area are located in both banks of the Nile stream in the cultivated land; extending east and west of the Nile stream. Four lateral sections, perpendicular to the Nile stream were chosen with 50-60 kilometers in between regardless the width of the valley every section had five soil sampling sites sixty soil samples out of twenty profiles were collected in order to represent most of the different expected soil types. |
