Abstract

Eastern harbour: the eastern harbour of Alexandria (EH), a small shallow semicircular basin generally surrounded by Alexandria, has an area of 2.53 X 106 m2, average depth of 6.5 m and water volume of 16.44 X 106 m3. it is sheltered from the sea by an artificial water break, leaving two openings through which the harbour water is freely connected with the Mediterranean water. The EH is mainly affected by sewage disposal of the central part of Alexandria, discharging annually about 35.18X 106 m3.
Abu-kir bay: Abu-kir bay, a shallow semicircular basin located east of Alexandria, has an area, average depth and water volume of 360 km2, 12m and 4.32 km3. it receives Nile water from the rosetta branch at its eastern side, brackish water from lake Edku through El-Maadia channel at is southern side and highly polluted waste waters through El-Tabia outfalls at its south eastern side.
