Abstract Conclusion The advent of the operative arthroscope for surgeries as meniscectomies and ACL reconstruction due to it advantages: 1- Decreased the incidence of infection, post operative pain and neuroma formation. 2- Minimal surgical trauma. 3- Minimal skin scar. 4- Reduced the hospital cost as some surgeries as partial meniscectomy can be done at the outpatient clinic. 5- It entails the possibility of performing other treatment modalities as meniscoplasty, synovectomy and so on. The results of arthroscopic meniscectomy are far superior to those of open meniscectomy and the results of partial meniscectomy are too superior to be weighed against the total meniscectomy. For ACL reconstruction, the use of the central one third of the patellar tendon graft is much stronger and superior to other substitute with no affection on the extensor mechanism, in which the new technical modifications of fixations of the graft, and the use of the bone fragments collected during the operation provide proper tensioning of the graft and reduce the postoperative anterior knee pain. |
