Abstract

Analysis of results revealed that:
1- Non of the patients examined in this study who wear hard lenses or gas permeable lenses developed inaction.
2- Out of 297 cases wearing extended wear lenses, 32 of them develop infection.
3- Out of 1170 patients wearing soft daily wear lenses,8 had infection.
4- As regard methods of sterilization, only one patient out of 40 patients with infection, had used steriling solutions and tablets in the proper manner.
5-it was found that in 50 0f the cases of infection, the lenses were loosely fit contact lenses, in 40& of the cases the lenses were tight.
Contact lenses is an essential initial step in contact lens practice. although extended wear lenses seem to be more easier in use than daily wear lenses, but the high risk of microbial contamination, the high incidence of deposits must decrease popularity of them. Publics must be instructed about high possibility of microbial infection of their eyes after use of e.w.lenses.we do not wish to discourage the use of soft lenses, but it is important for the clinician who fits a patient with a contact lens the be aware of the real risk of serious bacterial infection. the responibilitlrs of the dispensing clinic on include a careful examination and evaluation of the eye before lens fitness, dispending a properly fit lens, adequate patient instructions in lens technique, appropriate follow-up, and prompt diagnosis and management of complications.
