Abstract The aim of this study was to compare between traditional and standardized protocols in management of severely malnourished children as regarding to outcome of the patients (mortality and recovery). Conclusions: We can conclude from this study that the standardized protocol is much better than traditional protocol in management of children suffering from severe malnutrition even in the presence of severe life threatening complications and, the high case fatality rates among severely malnourished children can be reduced by using this standardized and easily implementable protocol, with improvement of decision making monitoring and supervision. Also, it is suggested that all severely malnourished children oedematous and non oedematous should be treated according to the same dietetic principles. |
