Abstract Tonsillectomy is one of the most commonly performed Otolaryngology operations. Otolaryngologists throughout history have explored different techiques include guillotine excision, blunt dissection , cryosurgery , monopolar and bipolar diathermy dissection , bipolar scissors dissection , ultrasonic scalpel tonsillectomy , laser tonsillectomy and ,coblation assisted tonsillectomy . All these techniques have advantage and disadvantage , and debate about the optimal surgical technique continues in the literature . Differences between surgical methods are described in term of operative blood loss, operative time , and particularly , post-operative morbidity . Post-tonsillectomy morbidity includes post operative pain which remains the major side effect in the operation. A prolonged period of post-operative recovery infection of the tonsil bed during this time . |
