Abstract It is a pilot study to evaluate the biochemical & ultrasonographic parameters in pregnant females to pike up those at high risk for congenitally malformed outcomes and candidate for more diagnostic procedures. In conclusion, this study has shown the feasibility of implementing a nuchal translucency- screening program with little changes in routine practice and with only minimal additional resources .one of the common criticisms of routine nuchal translucency screening is that additional time for booking scans and specially trained staff is required in order to achieve satisfactory results. It is important to bear in mind that, all the markers that have been prospectively and extensively tested in high risk populations, first trimester NT is the most sensitive and specific and therefore constitutes a the current gold standard’ for DS screening .in addition, these are distinctive advantages of first trimester screening, such as early diagnosis and decision making regarding pregnancy treatment. Also, this study highlights the value of first trimester nuchal translucency screening as well as the necessity for focused fetal assessment and neonatal / infant follow –up in cases where the nuchal translucency measurement is significantly increased |
