Abstract

In the last few years, great advances in microsurgery allows reconstruction of a large section of bone with vascularised fibular graft, it may be with great advantages in the forearm bones, but in the tibia, the difference in size between the last bone and the transplanted fibula produce a potential stress concentration on the graft material resulting in a prolonged recovery time. The host graft junction may cause refracture and pseudarthrosis [16-19].
Ilizarov circular frame osteosynthesis allows resection of infected bone area and repair of the bone defect by internal transport of bone segment and stabilization of bone to consolidation while maintaining or restoring the length of the limb as desired. Joint function in the involved extremity is encouraged during the period in which the apparatus must be worn and functional loading can be initiated within the first days after application of the apparatus.
Aim of the work
The aim of the work is to evaluate the use of external fixator in management of infected non union tibia.
