Abstract The present work is mainly directed to the parallel application of routine histopathology and immunohistochemistry (direct immunofluorescence and direct immunoperoxidase techniques) in order to assert the diagnosis of Lp. In conclusion, the present study suggests that focal hypergraunlosis, basal cell degeneration and band-like dermal lymphocytic infiltrate are characteristic histopathologic features of Lp and their presence together in the same biopsy is highly characteristic of Lp. It also suggests that the deposition of IgM on colloid bodies in the upper dermis together with deposition of fibrinogen along the BMZ in the same specimen is highly characteristic of LP. And recommends the use of histopathology and immunchistochemistry side by side in the diagnosis of LP. |
