Abstract
The present study was done due to increased potential ototoxicity of aminoglycosides antibiotics , salicylates and cisplatin and to investigate the protective effect of iron chelator , desferrioxamine on both gentamicin and cisplatin ototoxicites and the protective effect of dexamethasone on salicylate ototoxicity. Results of this study revealed that light and electron microscopic examination of the cochleas of control, desferrioxamine and dexamethasone groups showed no abnormal histopathological changes. Light microscopic examination of cochleas of gentamicin group showed signs of complete degeneration in the form of loss of cells of organ of Corti, detachment of striavascularis and degenerative changes of spiral ganglionic cells.
