Abstract Basic principles: Ps. Aeruginosa is inhabitant of water vegetations and moist soil. The organism is recovered from sputum, wounds , urine , blood , bile , spinal fluid and fluids aspirated from internal sites in case of systemic infections. The isolation of Ps. Aeruginosa has been facilated by the use of selective medium containing 0.03%cetrimide. It is a slender, non-sporing, non-capsulated, gram-negative bacilli. The organism is strictly aerobic and grow well at 37C and pH range from 5.0 – 9.0 with an optimum of 7.5. on nutrient agar medium the most strains of Ps. Aeruginosa produces extremely characteristic water soluble pigments bluish green in colour. |
