Abstract In this thesis , simple, rapid and sesitive spectrophotometric methods were developed for the determination of eight cephalosporins as namely cephalexin anhydrous, cefoperazone sodium, cefadroxil monohydrate and ceftazedime pentahydrate. these methods are based on the oxidation of the investigated drugs using a known excess of cerium (IV), the remaining amount of serium (IV) can be determined using one of the following methods: 1- UV determination of the remaining cerium (IV) at 301 nm or by determination of its first derivative at 339.5 or 354.5 nm. 2- Colorimetric measurement of the remaining cerium (IV) through the reaction of Ce (IV) with ρ-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde ( ρ-DMAB), ρ-dimethyl-aminocinnamaldehyde (ρ-DMAC) or ρ-aminophenol and measuring the coloured products at 465,466 or 550nm respectively. |
