المستخلص

Natural killer T (NKT) cells constitute a unique subset among mature lymphocytes NKT cells represent important cell lineage, that do not require prior sensitization for effector function and are vital for combating infection and subsequently, activating the adaptive immune system.
Acute leukemias represent a clonal expansion and arrest at a specific stage of normal myeloid or lymphoid hematopoiesis. Patients suffering from haematopoietic malignancies are under immunosuppressive conditions induced by increased tumor cells and administration of chemotherapeutics.
Cytomegalovirus reactivation and infection remain one of the major complications in the immunocompromised patients as leukemic patients especially following allogeneic stem cell transplantation causing many critical infections This work aimed at assessment of NKT cells in leukemic children, detection of CMV infection prevalence rate in leukemic children, and correlation between NKT cells condition and CMV infection among leukemic children compared to normal individuals.
