Abstract
In this thesis simple, reliable and sensitive spectrophotometric and spectrofluorimetric methods were developed for the determination of eight thiazide and thiazide-like diuretics namely bendroflumethiazide, benzthiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, hydroflumethiazide, chlorthalidone, clopamide, indapamide and xipamide. The reaction of bendroflumethiazide, benzthiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, hydroflumethiazide, chlorthalidone, clopamide, indapamide and xipamide with hydroxylamine to from hydroxamates of these compounds, the resulting hydroxamates were chelated with ferric chloride in acid medium. The reaction of bendeoflumethiazide, benzthiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, chlorthalidone, clopamide, indapamide and xipamide with potassium ferricyanide. The reaction of bendroflumethiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, hydroflumethiazide, clopamide and inapamide with NBD-C1 to from yellow fluorescent product measured (excitation at 470nm and emission at 535nm) .
