Abstract
The current study was carried out in the Department of Anaesthesia, Ophthalmology Unit, in Alexandria Main University Hospital, on 70 pediatric patients of either sex, ASA physical status І, scheduled for elective strabismus repair under general anesthesia. Patients were randomly allocated into two equal groups, group I (Rocuronium group) and group II (Atracurium group), 35 patients each. After approval from the Local Ethical Committee and all patients had an informed written consent of the study. All surgeries were carried out by the same ophthalmologist. All patients had carried out elective strabismus repair under general anesthesia. Oral diazepam 0.5mg/kg had been used for premedication, intravenous fentanyl 1 mcg/kg for analgesia and sevoflurane 8% for induction which titrated to adequate depth for the maintenance of anesthesia.
Patients were randomly divided into two equal groups (35 patients each):
1. Patients in first group (group I) had received single intubating dose of rocuronium 0.6 mg/kg IV 2 minutes before tracheal intubation.
2. Patients in second group (group II) had received single intubating dose of atracurium 0.5mg/kg IV 3 minutes before tracheal intubation.
The aim of this work was to compare between rocuronium and atracurium effect on occurrence and severity of OCR during squint surgery in children .
