Abstract The concept of preserving graft circulation was used as early as 1905 by Huntington as an ipsilateral fibular transfer to the tibia .This procedure was also considered as a modification of a similar procedure reported by Hahn in 1884.Following this reports many procedures were devised to make use of the fibula in reconstruction of tibial defects. The results of vascularized fibular grafts used for reconstruction of femoral defects: - Reconstructive results: (flap survival, graft union, graft hypertrophy, weight-bearing and stress fracture) - Functional results - Oncological results: (in case of malignant bone tumors). |
