Abstract
In the present study, a trial was done to measure serum concentration of MTX following its administration to RA patients during a dosage interval of one week. An attempt was undertaken to correlate these levels with the clinical response of the drug.
The results obtained in the present investigation clearly demonstrate that the maximum concentration of MTX (Cmax)is achieved at 15 min interval. Morever, no drug was detected 24,48,and 72h after MTX administration.
In conclusion, MTX was recorded among the efficacious compounds in treatment of RA. Low-dose MTX is generally considered to have a more rapid onset of action and a minimal toxicity. However, it was difficult to correlate the serum MTX level during the dose interval of one week with the clinical response which may support the different mechanisms of MTX action in RA specially the immunological mechanisms.
