Abstract In conclusion, it is evident that yohimbine increases the spontaneous locomotor activity of rats while diazepam inhibit it. Moreover, diazepam was found to have the ability, in a dose-dependent manner, to inhibit or reverse the stimulant effect of yohimbine. A correlation between the enhancing effect of yohimbine and the inhibiting effect of diazepam and the levels of monoamines and GABA in the brain was obtained. The role of central alpha2 adrenoceptors in controlling motor activity and neurotransnission was therefore confirmed. |
