Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a preventable disease rather than a curable one, since there is no well-documented effective treatment modality until now, making the molecular study of this disease mandatory. Early detection of HCC offers the best chance for curative treatment. Current diagnosis of HCC relies on clinical information, liver enzymes and measure of serum alfa-fetoprotien (AFP).
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a public health problem and it has been estimated to infect 170 million people worldwide. It was described as silent disease. HCV infection frequently leads to chronic hepatitis, which may progress to cirrhosis and even to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The mechanism responsible for the pathogenesis of chronic HCV infection is not well known.
This study aimed to evaluate laboratory investigation of HCC which include HCV-ab determination by (Elisa)and HCV-RNA by (PCR), biochemical markers (Liver function tests, inflammatory markers (α-GT), (IL-6) and tumor markers as alfa-fetoprotien (AFP) in HCV infected patients and HCV infected radiation workers.
