Abstract Buphthalmos is considered a quite challenging problem especially the recurrent cases that carry a guarded prognosis with the treatment option including filtering surgery with or without antimetabolites and the use of glaucoma drainage implants. The use of trabeculectomy alone in the management of recurrent cases of congenital glaucoma is a matter of controversy between different studies as most of the studies demonstrates low success rate of trabeculectomy and they attributed this to the thick and active Tenon’s capsule, rapid and aggressive wound healing. But on the other hands other studies demonstrate encouraging results of trabeculectomy alone and mentioned that it is an easy operation with less dangerous complications. |
