Abstract

Camel milk production and quality as affected by long term feeding on Atriplex -estimation of the shelf life of raw and pasteurized camel milk .estimation of the microbial quality of raw camel milk .The present study was carried out at camel-breeding farms Maryout research station, Desert Research Center, Egypt. Sixteen female camels one–humped were used in this study. Animals were divided into two groups (8 camels each). Camel’s of the first group (control group) were fed with berseem hay as control and the second group was fed with fresh Atriplex halimus. Daily milk yield was measured every two weeks along period of 10 months.
Results indicated a significant differences (p<0.5) between lactation months and daily milk yield (Kg/day), milk chemical composition, physical properties and milk mineral content. The use of Atriplex halimus increased (p< 0.05) the daily milk yield , total solids, total proteins, lactose and Na, K and Ca content while decreased (p<0.05) the conductivity (ms/ cm).
