Abstract This study was based on tracings of lateral cephalometric X-ray films for 10 children with cleft lip, 9 children with cleft palate, 10 children with bilateral cleft lip and palate, and 20 non-cleft controls, ranging in age from 6 to 12 years. Measurements for 12 angles and 8 dimensions were obtained to evaluate the craniofacial morphology of the sample. These included measurements for the cranial base, facial heights, maxillary depth and the mandible. Comparison ~or each measurement for the three cleft pairs (CL-CPl, (CP-BCLP), (BCLP-CL), (CP-Control), (BCLP-Control) were evaluated by analysis of variance. The results of the investigation appear to warrant the following conclusions : CL had no apparent effect on the craniofacial morphology. BCLP cases are characterized by, significant reduction of S.N.B. angle. The m~ndibular shape and dimensions showed significant differences where there were small mandibular length, obtuse gonial angle, large mandibular plane angle, retroinclined lower incisors and large S.N-MP angle. |
