Abstract Umbilical cord care in premature infants. The effect of two different cord care Regimens (Bacitracin Zinc B.P 250, I.U vs Ethyl Alcohol 70%) on cord separation time and other outcomes at Zagazig University Hospital.The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of two different cord care regimens (Bacitracin Zinc B.P 250 I.U vs Ethyl Alcohol 70%) in relation to cord separation time in preterm infants quasi experimental clinical trail designed randomly assigned to compare cord care treatment.A maternal neonatal assessment sheets and laboratory tests were developed researcher and used 200 premature neonates who meet required criteria. The setting of the study was neonatal intensive care unit and neonatal special care unit (NSCU) at Zagazig University Hospital. The sample was randomly assigned two different groups group (1), (119) received Alcohol and group (2), 81 received Bacitracin. Result obtained from this study revealed that showed that the most common organisms detected in the umbilical swabs were staphylococcus aureus (27.7%) followed by Klebsiella (18.5%) in sequence also cord separation time was prolonged among Alcohol 70% group than Bacitracin group. |
