Cardiac surgery in particular cardiopulmonary bypass have been reported to trigger myocardial inflammation, this surgery related inflammatory reactions appear to be of extreme complexity with regard to its molecular, cellular and tissue mechanisms
Ischemic Cardiopulmonary Bypass is associated with production of damaging free radicals
Certain anesthetics may be beneficial as a potent free radical scavengers in patients presenting pathologies associated with free radical reactions during cardiopulmonary bypass
Pharmacological preconditioning provides protective role in CABG patients
Though ischemic preconditioning has no effect on free radical generation after the operation yet it protects against postoperative stunning
Cardioplegic strategies may help to resuscitate the ischemic myocardium and reduce operative complications in high risk patients
It is suggested that off-pump surgery may offer superior cardio-protection than coronary artery bypass grafting with conventional cardiopulmonary bypass
