Abstract was carried out at the experimental station, Faculty of Agriculture at oshtohor, Zagazig University, Benha Branch, during seasons 1994, 1 95 and 1996. The stud was divided, into four experiments on Dracaena marginata and laonema pictum: • The First E .periments aimed at studying the effect of different types of me ia on vegetative .growth and chemical content of both Dracaena an Algoanema. • The Second experiment aimed at studying the effect of kinetin on vegetative owth and chemical contents of Dracaena and Aglaonema. • The Third ~ ( nd Aglaonema were cultivated on pots 25 fill;aJth different types of nedia. These types of media were: • Media No.1: 1 Soil: I Sand: I Peatmoss by volwne or on volwne basis. irrigation on iperimem aimed at studying the effect of interval or th plants. aimed at studying the effect of light • Media.No.2: Soil: 1 sand by volume or on volume basis • Media No. 3:1 Soil: 1 sand ’:1 wood chip by volume or on volume basis. ______ -+- Coil SUMMARYro _ IMPORTANT I ESULTS: 1- Draecena rna ginata: 1- The media N l. 1 was the best media where it gave the best vegetative growth on comparison with other types of media. It caused also mcrease in h ights of plant, number of leave/plant, diameter of stem and vegetative contents of Dracaena in both seasons. 2- Using media Ina. 1 increased the chlorphyll content A and B and total carbohydrates 3- Media no. 3 vhich consists of 1 soil: 1 sand: 1 wood chip gave the lowest resu1 s in vegetative growth and chemical cotnent in comparison w th the other media. B- Aglaonema pictum: 1- Using media o. 1 which consists of I soil: 1 sand : 1 peatmoss increased the vegetative growth of Aglonema in both seasons except for thickness cf stem which was not affected by any type of media. 2- Media No. 1 increased chlorophyll content A and B and total carbohydrate contents, 11- EFFECT OF KINETIN: Dracaena marginate and Aglonema pictum were sprayed with kinetin at concent ations zero ppm, 50 ppm and 75 ppm. Important results were: A- Dracaena masgituua: 1- Foilar spraying of plant with kinetin in concentration 75 ppm gave best results where it increased height of plant, number of leaves per .• III d)a plant, fresh nd dry weight of leaves and root. It also increased chlorophyll A and B, carotene and carbohydrate content on leaves. 2- All results in plant treated with zero p.p.m (control) were lower than those results 0 the other treatments. B- Aglaonema pi tum: 1- Application 0 kinetin at a concentration of75 p.p.m. increased height of plant, nut ber of leaves/plants, fresh and dry weight of leaves and roots. 2- Spraying plan s with kinetin in a concentration of75 PPM increased content of chi rophyll A, B, carotene and total carbohydrates contents in leaves. 111-EFFECT 0 PERIOD INTERVAL OF IRRIGATION: This experi ent included 3 periods of irrigation: 1- The first: irrig ion every 3 days. 2- The second: irr gation every 5 days. 3- The third: irrig tion every 10 days. These per od were raised in the season while in the second one the same periods wer used in addition to irrigation every 7 days. A- Draecena ma inata: 1- Irrigation of p ants every 3 days gave the best results where it caused increase in h .ght of plants, number of leaves per plants and thickness of plants it al a increased the fresh and dry weight of leaves and roots in the second ason. 2- Irrigating tb plants every 5 days gave good results but lower than irrigation ev ry 3 days in all the studied characters. 3- Irrigation ev ry 10 days was .lowest effective treatment on plants in comparison ith other the treatments of irrigation. 4- Irrigation ev ry 3 days increased chlorophyll A and B and total 5- Irrigation eve 5 days increased indoles in plants. B- Aglaonema ictum: 1- Irrigation eve y 3 days gave the best results where it increased the wth in both the seasons and fresh and dry weight of leaves and ro ts in the second season. 2- Irrigation eve y 5 days gave good results but lower than irrigation every 3 days. 3- Irrigation eve y 10 days was the lowest effective treatment on the testing charac ers. 4- Irrigation ev 3 days increased the chlorophyll A, B and total carbohydrates in leaves. 5- Irrigation ever 5 days increased indoles content. IV- EFFECT 0 LIGHT INTENSITY: The tested lants were placed in two levels of light intensity: 1- The first level: 1450 Lux (under condion of wood green house). 2- The second lev 1: 1920 Lux (under tree shading). 1m ortant resul s: ______ -+- 0l1 SUMMARYfllJ _ 1- Placing plants under low light intensity 1450 Lux increased length, number of le ves/plants in comparison with the plants placed under in higher light in ensity. 2- Placement of lants under high light intensity, 1450 Lux, increased fresh and dry weight of leaves, thickness of stem and fresh and dry weight of root . 3- The high lig t intensity increased chlorophy A and B content, carotene, total carbohydrates content, phenols and indoles contents. B- Aglaonema pi tum: 1- Development fplants underlow light intensity (1450 Lux) increased length of pIa t5, number of leaves/plants more than plants exposed to the higher ligh intensity. 2- Growing plant under the higher light intensity (1920 Lux) increased thickness of st m and fresh and dry weight of leaves and roots. 3- Increasing lig intensity led to increasing chlorophy content A and B, carotene, total arbohydrates contents, phenoles and indoles contents. |
