Abstract
OXYGEN THERAPY is considered one of the recent methods of complementary medicine accepted worldwide.
This type of therapy has sparked uproar in Egyptian media at the beginning of the year without clarifying the nature of such therapy which developed a misunderstanding among lay persons and even medical personnel.
This assay is a trial to clarify the nature of HBO therapy, identifying the historical background, stages of development and the main indications in medicine in general with high lightening on the most accepted indications worldwide, the uses in otolaryngology-head &neck surgery such as sudden sensorineural hearing loss, tinnitus, meniere’s disease, necrotizing otitis externa, bell’s palsy, head & neck malignancies and cluster headache…etc, with focusing on the recent papers with and against each indication. It discusses the contraindications, complications of this therapy world wide and in Egypt.
