Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome is one of the most common endocrinal disorders in women of reproductive age . To diagnose PCOS 2 out of 3 criteria must be present:
o oligoovulation and/or anovulation,
o excess androgen activity,
o polycystic ovaries (by gynecologic ultrasound), and other endocrine disorders are excluded.
PCOS present in5-10% of the population. It has multiple components reproductive , metabolic and cardiovascular with health implication across the life span. Their’s multiple etiological theories suggest the development of PCOS(hereditary, obesity, insulin resistance , hypothalamic pituitary abnormalities, adrenal abnormalities and ovarian abnormalities)
Ultrasonogroghic appearance of the ovaries which are presence of 12 or more follicles measuring 2-9 mm in diameter and /or an increase ovarian volume greater than 10 cm3 on either vaginal or abdominal ultrasound. One Polycystic ovary is sufficient to provide the diagnosis
Obesity is defined as an excess body fat accumulation with multiple organ specific pathological consequences. Their’s 2 types of obesity lower- body obesity and central obesity which with it multiple complications developed (cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, respiratory problems, gall bladder diseases, endocrinal problems , cancer).
Although the association of PCOS with obesity is widely recognized, until very recently the actual frequency of PCOS in otherwise healthy overweight or obese women was unknown.
